How to move your website, domain and email off GoDaddy
Short answer: To move off GoDaddy: back up your site, set up hosting at the new host, migrate the site, move email, then unlock the domain, get the transfer code and transfer it. Switch DNS last so there is no downtime.
1. Back up everything
Download a full site backup and export your mailboxes.
2. Set up new hosting
Create the hosting plan and migrate the site to it. Test on a temporary URL.
3. Move email
Create the mailboxes at the new host and copy mail over before switching MX records.
4. Transfer the domain
Unlock the domain, turn off privacy if needed, request the authorization code and start the transfer. Transfers usually take up to 5–7 days.
5. Switch DNS
Point DNS to the new host, then cancel the old plan after everything works.
